A good pool party is mostly about handling a few things early so the day itself stays easy. Here is the short checklist Foxx Pools has shared with Hudson Valley families for years.
Start with the guest list. Decide who you are inviting before anything else. A realistic headcount is what lets you plan food, drinks, seating, and how many people will comfortably fit in the water at once.
Send invitations people notice. Fun, eye-catching invitations get kids and adults counting down the days. They also give you a clean way to track who is coming so the rest of your planning has real numbers behind it.
Remind everyone to bring a swimsuit. It sounds obvious, but you would be surprised how many people show up without one. A quick line on the invitation saves a few guests from sitting on the sidelines.
Put safety first. Around the pool, safety always comes first. Keep a close eye on children near the water, make sure non-swimmers are accounted for, and know where your safety equipment is before the first guest arrives.
Have a few pool games ready. Games keep the energy up, especially with kids. Classics like Sharks and Minnows or a round of Marco Polo need zero equipment and never get old.
Set the mood with music. A simple summer playlist in the background turns a backyard into a party. Build it ahead of time so nobody is fiddling with a phone once the fun starts.
Plan the food. Everyone looks forward to good party food, and a poolside menu works best when most of it can be made ahead. We put together a separate post with eight of our favorite pool party dishes and drinks, so start there for menu ideas.
Decorate to match the day. It is a party, after all. A little color and a few themed touches make the whole yard feel inviting and pull the look together.
Handle those eight things in advance and the party mostly runs itself. And if your pool is not quite ready for guests, Foxx Pools can help you get it party-ready with an opening, a cleanup, or a quick service visit.
